Third Grade Unit: EVALUATE

Evaluate: BULLETIN BOARD WEB, AND AnJobs.pdf Assessment. .

KEY CONCEPTS

• The characteristics of organisms • Regulation and behavior • Food chains • Interdependence • Communities • Classifying animals/living things

SUMMARY

Students create a bulletin board web diagram illustrating all the interrelationships they have learned in the course of the unit.

MATERIALS NEEDED

TenSpecies.pdf, AnJobs.pdf for each student,

DIRECTIONS

BULLETIN BOARD WEB

1. Remind students of the farm web that opened the unit. Students from Home Teams are given an image of their species. They decide what is needed on the farm to represent all the ways their species interacts with other animals, plants and people. For example, there needs to be a pond where the ducks and geese can swim together, and the ducks can eat the duckweed.

2. Species groups prepare their materials and then as a class, students create a bulletin board web of life for the farm.

3. If you gathered food samples during your visit, consider tacking up little bags of feed, and tying on a small bunch of hay and straw. Connect the animal images to these items with yarn or lines.

4. Connect as many things as you can (words and images of all the members of the farm, including products and services from animals, different kinds of plants, soil, manure, trees and the sun - all are part of the farm system. ) Write along the line about the relationship.

5. The bulletin board is used to demonstrate the interrelationships of plants, animals and people.

6. This is a nice display to put in the hall so other classes passing by can stop and learn.

PRODUCTS AND SERVICES

1. Print a copy of TenSpecies.pdf and a copy of AnJobs.pdf for each student or small groups.

2. Students record 2-3 jobs/products provided by each animal.
