PRODUCT AND PRODUCER GAME
1. Each student is given one image of either an animal from TenSpecies.pdf or an animal product from AnProducts.pdf. They walk around and find their partner by matching the image of an animal with the product they provide.
2. When all are found, pairs share their results, then return to their seats.
3. Have students brainstorm additional products animals provide.
DIET AND ACTIVITY OVERHEAD
1. Use AnDietActvity.pdf as an overhead to record their ideas of additional products and services animals provide that they may not have considered during the game.
2. This will serve as a review of the information from the previous day and from the previous activity, as well as a way to record new ideas.
3. Discuss new suggestions and get consensus as you add them to the chart.
4. If you feel the students will benefit from a master summary, use AnJobsRef.pdf an overhead. Consider revealing one column and row at a time as you review the products and services compiled there. Depending on your teaching philosophy, you may want to avoid the "right answer" syndrome. In that case, use as reference during the activity to ask leading questions or add information.
SUPPLEMENTAL SLIDESET #1
1. Handout AnJobs.pdf for students to complete independently as you go through the slides. (This is also used in the evaluation section).
2. Show supplemental slide set 1 and ask students to name each animal aloud.
3. They then work independently to list services and products from each species. They are to list the ways that farm animals are useful
4. Students do not need to develop an exhaustive list, as long as it represents a variety of products and services. Set 1 (Farm Animal Species)
1A. Highland Cow – Gordon Kohl 1B. Spanish Mustang Horse – Marye Ann Thompson 1C. Donkeys – D. P. Sponenberg 1D. Karakul sheep – Jeffrey Black 1E. Myotonic Goat – D. P. Sponenberg 1F. Tamworth pigs – Don Bixby 1G. Dominique chickens – Randy Reiserer 1 H. Khaki Campbell duck – Heather Maxey 1I. Pilgrim geese – Rob Amberg 1J. Bronze turkeys – David Sullenberger
5. (Assessment) Collect, or allow students to use the key AnJobs.pdf to check their work.
HOME-TO-SCHOOL CONNECTION
1. Have students find five products or services that animals provide in their own home.
2. Some may wish to see if they can find more than 5!
