1. Teacher leads a guided discussion as students view images
of the ten different species of farm animals (SLIDESHOW SUPPLEMENTAL SET
1). Students are encouraged to comment on similarities and differences.
2. The conversation then expands to include discussion about the similarities
and differences between people and animals. This conversation can begin
during the field trip (perhaps over lunch as you discuss how we rely on
animals for our food!) and continue throughout the unit.
3. Additionally, students can view SLIDESHOW PARTS 2 AND SLIDESHOW PARTS 3, and continue
discussion, focusing on why breeds become rare.
